I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you that Dan Shaughnessy is not my favorite sportswriter.
In the last two weeks, he’s written five columns; three of which are like the one you’re about to not read. A collection of assorted thoughts. A Shaughnessy Smorgasbord. I hope this lack of shoving his worthless thoughts down our throats doesn’t mean he’s writing a book or something. ‘Cause you just know his people are gonna mail it to me and make me write a blurb for the back flap.. Dan Shaughnessy Sucks..
I dislike Dan Shaughnessy. Quite a bit. Being a New England sports fan, a Mainer, I like to read about the good times (2004) not the bad (1986). But Mr. Shaughnessy made quite a comfortable living out of a curse of his own creation. He’s a New England sports alarmist. He’s uncomfortable with success. He revels in failure.
Over at TRS’s sister site (lol, gay) www.lowposts.com, I’ve been known to write an article or two lampooning Senors Shaughnessy, Ryan & Plaschke (as I now live in LA), FJM/BDD-style. But as lowposts is a basketball site, plenty of non-basketball-related, equally terrible columns penned by these fine gentleman go by the wayside. Or, in Bob Ryan’s case, the weighside.
Until now.
